Fee-Free Entrance Days 2023

On select days of the year, all National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission to everyone. Mark your calendar for these National Park entrance fee-free dates in 2023!

  • January 16: Birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.
  • April 22: First day of National Park Week
  • August 4: Anniversary of Great American Outdoors Act
  • September 23: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

Yellowstone National Park Closes for Wheeled Vehicle Travel

November 1, 2023

The West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park is scheduled to close for wheeled vehicle travel at 9:00 PM on November 1, 2023, in preparation for the winter season. Seasonal closures are planned for the following dates:

  • ​November 1: ​All roads close at 9:00 PM except the road between the North Entrance and the Northeast Entrance.

Conditions permitting, roads are projected to open to oversnow travel by snowmobile and snowcoach at 8:00 AM on December 15, 2023.

The road from the North to Northeast Entrance is open year-round, weather permitting.

Yellowstone National Park Opens for Oversnow Travel

December 15, 2023

December 15, 2023 is the projected opening date for snowmobile and snowcoach travel for the winter season (weather permitting). The Park will be open until approximately March 15, 2024 when the roads close in preparation for spring.

Conditions permitting, roads are scheduled to re-open to oversnow travel at 8:00 AM on the following dates:

  • December 15: Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris; Norris to Madison; Norris to Canyon; Canyon to Fishing Bridge; West, South, and East entrances; and all remaining groomed roads.

Guided Winter Tours and Snowmobile Rentals are available daily through Yellowstone Vacation Tours and Two Top Snowmobile in West Yellowstone, MT, and Snowcoach Tours leaving from Gardiner, MT are now available as well. Plan your winter getaway today!
